Engine Company 6 (Volunteer)

Engine Company 6, located in South Meriden, is staffed by qualified volunteers and is an auxiliary company utilized for emergency services to the community. Engine 6 is staffed for all greater alarm fires, and times when call volume is high. Additionally the volunteers of Engine Company 6 staff special events in South Meriden.

The Meriden Fire Department is always looking for volunteers to staff Engine 6, which responds to an average of approximately 200 calls per year. Successful candidates should be Meriden residents (or live within 5 miles of Meriden), and over 18 years of age. Applicants must be a high school graduate, be in good health, have a clean police record, a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Candidates, who live outside of Meriden, may only apply if they are already certified with a minimum FF-1 and EMS certification. Applications are accepted year-round, but prospective recruits' applications are typically processed only three times per year.

The Meriden Fire Department staffs Engine 6 with a minimum of three firefighters and can increase depending on availability and task requirements. In addition, we proudly staff Brush 1, the city's only Brush company.

Engine 6 trains weekly (Mondays) and most of the members are at least Firefighter II certified and carry an EMT certification. Several are Fire Officer and Instructor certified.

Please remember. Vehicles displaying flashing blue lights are firefighters or EMTs responding to an emergency. Please yield right-of-way to them.
