The Commission for Persons with Disabilities meets every second Thursday of the month at 5:30 pm in the City Planner's Conference Room, first floor of City Hall. The seven member commission serves as a clearinghouse for information and provides publications to the public designed to promote disability awareness; monitors and ensures compliance, enforcement and implementation of existing state and federal statutes intended to aid persons with disabilities; acts as an advocate and coordinator to bring about new and expanded programs and services for persons with disabilities; performs accessibility audits of public buildings; and reviews complaints from the public regarding accessibility issues. The commission members are encouraged to become well-versed in the ADA and related laws concerning accessibility for persons with disabilities. Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend the meetings to learn more about the Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
The Human Rights Advisory Board meets every first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm in the City Manager's Conference Room, top floor of City Hall. The nine-member advisory board determines the conditions, needs and problems concerning Human Rights in the City of Meriden, and reviews and makes recommendations thereon to the City Manager and/or the Director of Human Rights. The Advisory Board monitors the actions of the City of Meriden as well as the community as a whole. Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend the meetings to learn more about the Human Rights Advisory Board.
