We'll be hosting a Transit-Oriented Communities Walk Audit of downtown Meriden with ProHomesCT (formerly called DesegregateCT) on Saturday, November 7 at 2pm (starting location and walking route TBD).
ProHomesCT has been studying TOC's (transit-oriented communities) in CT for a while now, and they identified Meriden as a "mid-term" TOC which means based on current conditions and available data, they believe "new investments and land use changes could unlock TOC potential" within the next 5-10 years. "TOC potential" includes all measures of success - walkability, housing, economic development, etc.
The purpose of the walk audit is to help us work toward that goal. They will join us, and any stakeholders/community members who want to attend, for a group walk of the downtown area to visually assess the physical characteristics while discussing how current conditions might be impacting the vitality of downtown and what we could do to improve them, especially through zoning reform.
If anyone would like to join the walk, please RSVP (see link below) so we know how many people to expect. If you know anyone in the community who might be interested please feel free to share!
(Some of you might also get a direct invite from ProHomesCT - they have their own contact list of stakeholders including City Council, our State reps, MHA, etc.)
