Meriden Will be Participating in the Farmers to Families Food Box Program

MERIDEN- The Connecticut Department of Agriculture in partnership with EndHunger CT! and the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security is organizing a statewide coordination to 501 c (3) organization and government entities of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farmers to Families Food Box Program (FFFB). This program is authorized under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act announced April 17th. FFFB was established as a method to provide food to people in need while also supporting U.S. farmers and distributors who experienced significant impact to their businesses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The boxes coming into Connecticut will be coming from Vincent Farms in Delaware who will also be distributing boxes in MA, NH, DE, ME, NY, PA, MD and RI. 

The Food Box distribution will run for a total of five weeks beginning Monday, September 28 and will go through Saturday, October 31, 2020. October 31st is when this period of distribution is confirmed to end by the USDA. There will be another round of contracts for November/December to be announced mid-October. Each food box contains five pounds of packaged meats, five pounds of various dairy products, 12 pounds of produce, and a gallon of milk.

Multiple organizations within Meriden will be hosting a FFFB distribution event on different dates and times. Within Meriden there will be an estimated total of 3,350 boxes and 3,350 gallons of milk distributed to families and individuals within the community by the end of October.     • October 17 at 2 p.m.
