Press Release – For Immediate Release

Meriden Senior Center – Reopening June 2, 2021

The Meriden Senior Center will be re-opening on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 1:00pm starting June 2, 2021, with hopes of a full 5-day per week opening in July.

Masks must be worn over the nose and mouth while inside the building and while on the Center’s mini-buses. Social distancing will be encouraged. Those who are not feeling well or who are currently under isolation or quarantine due to COVID-19 diagnosis or exposure should not come to the Center.

Common areas, the dining room, computer lab, activity room and pool table room will be open with limited capacity. BINGO will be played and some club activities will occur. Instructor-led classes may resume in July. Lunch will not be served at this time, but a snack bar will be available for light purchases.

“We look forward to seeing our seniors in person, while maintaining a safe environment for all. We continually re-evaluate services in light of the pandemic and thank our seniors for their patience”, says Lea Crown, Director of Health and Human Services.

The Senior Center, which closed to the public in late March 2020 due to COVID-19, has continued to provide services to Meriden’s senior population throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. These services include well-calls, rides to medical appointments, virtual and delivered recreation activities, meal delivery, and social services support.

As of May 19, 91% of Meriden residents age 65 and over have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. Overall, as of May 19 39% of Meriden residents are fully vaccinated.

Membership to the Meriden Senior Center is free for those over 55. Please call 203-237-0066.
