City of Meriden Offers Referral and Sign-On Bonuses for Public Safety Dispatch Positions

MERIDEN- The City of Meriden alongside Human Resources is pleased to announce the launch of a new referral program for the hiring of Public Safety Dispatchers. The mission behind the referral program is to attract and retain strong candidates to these recently opened positions. The City is currently accepting applications and have several opportunities, which can be found on the City of Meriden career page.

“We place great importance on referrals because we trust that our staff and Dispatchers know what’s best for this position at hand,” said City Manager Tim Coon. “We also know what a competitive environment today’s economy is creating, so to find candidates that want to be successful here in Meriden and create a long-term career, we want to meet them!”

This policy is offered as is either a referral or sign-on bonus. As a referral bonus, whether for a full-time or part-time position, a Certified Dispatcher who refers a candidate to an open Public Safety Dispatcher position will receive $1,000 after the new dispatcher has been with the City for six months of employment. A Trainee or City Staff referral, whether for a full-time or part-time position, will receive $500 after the new dispatcher has been with the City for six months of employment. 

The sign-on bonus policy is outlined below:

  • Entering full-time certified dispatchers: $4,000 bonus, with $2,000 paid after 6 months of employment and $2,000 after 12 total months of employment. 
  • Entering part-time certified dispatchers: $2,000, with $1,000 paid after 6 months of employment and $1,000 after 12 total months of employment.

It is important to provide referrals for applicants who exemplify strong skills required to fulfill the position.
