COVID-19 VACCINATION INFORMATION

Vaccination

Everyone 12 years of age or older is eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccination. Pfizer is FDA approved for those age 16 and over and is available under Emergency Use Authorization for those 12 and over. Moderna and Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccines are available under Emergency Use Authorization for those 18 years of age and older.

The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and is widely available.

Click here for a list of vaccination locations in Connecticut. Many locations do not require appointments; we recommend you call before going to ensure vaccine supply, what type of vaccine they are offering, and if appointments are required.

If you are fully vaccinated, you can do many of the activities you did before the pandemic started. Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

Booster and Third Shots:

**Note that the Meriden Department of Health and Human Services is not offering booster or third shots of COVID-19 vaccination.

For individuals who received an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna)

For individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at 6 months or more after their initial series:

For individuals who received a J&J vaccine

For individuals who received a J&J vaccine, booster shots are recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago. This means that all individuals who received a J&J vaccine should receive a booster.

 Mixing & Matching (heterologous series)

Both the FDA and CDC support individuals to receive a booster dose that is a different vaccine type than they originally received for their primary series if they choose. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.
